Lacuno is an open-source website builder in progress for people who care about the craft of the page and the freedom to keep it.
The premise
A visual tool can still produce work you understand, carry and host yourself.
Why it exists
Control is part of the design.
Lacuno is intended for designers, developers, writers and small teams who want visual composition without giving up a transparent project. The document stays structured, and the compiler produces a static website that can travel with the rest of your work.
The project is licensed under the AGPL. Users can self-host the builder and their websites, inspect how the system works and adapt it to their needs.
A browser-based builder and a Lacuno-operated hosting service are planned. They are not available capabilities today, and this template does not invent pricing, limits or a launch date.

Pages, styles, components and content stay in the Lacuno document where visual tools and agents can work with them directly.

Static pages keep the published result fast, comprehensible and ready for hosting in the environment you choose.
What is planned
A simple hosted path, with self-hosting always in view.
The planned Lacuno-operated service is intended to let people open the browser builder, start from an editable template and publish to a free subdomain with a limited page-visit allowance.
That service is future work. The durable promise is the direction: convenience should not take ownership away from the person making the site.
